Strezov Sampling’s The Creative ToolboX: Drums and Percussion is a generous, completely free virtual instrument collection built for music producers, beatmakers, and sound designers who want high-quality drums, percussive textures, and sonic variety without spending a cent. Part of a bigger “virtual band” concept, this first installment gives you solid tools to craft rhythms, grooves, and percussive flourishes that feel real and expressive.
What’s Inside
The ToolboX is stocked with a range of drum machines, acoustic drums, cymbals, and hand percussion. You’ll find:
- Drum Machines: Roland TR-08 and an alternate kit based on Behringer RD6, offering electronic punch, classic drum machine textures, and analog character.
- Acoustic Drum Kit Components: Large kick (Sonor Designer Bass Drum 20×17”), two snare options (Ludwig Supraphonic ’70s plus a “Big Fat Snare Drum Steve’s Donut”), Yamaha DW toms, hi-hats (Zildjian 13”), cymbals and ride (including Zildjian Custom 20”, Constantinople Ride 22”) which give you both warmth and cut.
- Percussion Collection: A rich add-on of bongos, congas, cajon, rototoms, castanets, guiro, cabasa, agogo, cowbell, claves, chimes — many hits with center, muted, side, ghost articulations, even crescendos and ghost hits for subtle rhythmic detail.
Everything is designed to be playable in Kontakt Player version 7.0.11 or higher (free version works), or full Kontakt. The total size is about 4.2 GB installed, with around 2 GB compressed and the rest unzipped. Minimum RAM requirement is 4 GB, so it runs well on many setups.

Creative Uses & Workflow Ideas
- Use the acoustic drums for live grooves: austere beats with plenty of room so cymbals and snares breathe.
- Blend drum machines with acoustic elements (e.g. layer the Roland TR-08 snare under the Ludwig snare) to get hybrid texture.
- Use hand percussion like ghost hits, shakers, and climbs for transitions or to build rhythmic tension.
- Automate velocity and articulations to add dynamics and human feel; ghost hits especially shine in dim-orchestral or ambient contexts.
- Use convolution or ambient reverbs on the percussion to place them in desired space — small room for intimate vibes, larger rooms/halls for cinematic washes.
