The Grand Vortice by My Father’s Cravat is a free 16-pole phaser that treats every stage of its all-pass cascade as an independent stereo tap. Instead of hiding those stages inside a conventional phaser, it lets you balance, pan and animate them individually.

Sixteen Phaser Stages Become Sixteen Taps

A normal phaser sends the signal through a chain of all-pass filters and blends the result back with the dry path. The Grand Vortice exposes much more of that architecture. Each of its 16 stages can contribute separately to the wet mix, effectively turning the phaser network into a playable multi-tap spatial instrument.

This means the plugin can still create familiar sweeps, but it can also build complex comb-like movement and layered stereo patterns.

Independent Motion on Every Pole

Individual stages provide controls for gain, pan, auto-pan, polarity and phase-rate behavior. Global controls such as Stage Macro, Rate Spread, Stage Spread, Stereo Phase and Auto-Pan Fan make it possible to move many stages together without editing all 16 one at a time.

Six LFO shapes and bipolar feedback further expand the range from gentle modulation to deliberately exaggerated motion.

23 Presets Show the Range

The included factory sounds cover conventional mono and stereo cascades as well as more experimental patches that use the tapped architecture to create moving sound-design effects. Starting from a preset is useful because the interface offers considerably more control than a typical one-knob phaser.

It can do classic phasing, but the per-stage panning, polarity and motion are where the plugin becomes distinctive.
