The Birth of an Artist Davis, California: that’s where it all began. As a teenager, Sophie took to local stages as a saxophonist in jazz bands, exploring harmonies and improvisations. Upon arriving in Los Angeles to pursue a jazz saxophone degree at CSU Northridge, she made a decisive turn towards songwriting. In 2018, her original compositions saw the light of day, opening doors to performances throughout the City of Angels.
Freeing the Marionette: ‘Marionette (Live)’ Sophie Seng knows how to captivate her audience. In Marionette (Live), she delves into the human soul’s complexities, exploring the dilemma of freedom and dependency. The song, with its haunting intensity, narrates the quest for independence of a marionette who, once cut from her strings, finds herself lost without the guidance she once knew. Carried by poignant orchestration and a voice full of depth, this live performance strikes a chord.
From the West Coast to the Texan Soul In 2021, Sophie chose Austin as her new creative home. There, she continues to make her voice heard alongside bands like Blush Fantasy, Tobias Lund, and Fierce Kelly. More than just a performer, she emerges as a storyteller, blending her diverse influences to create profoundly human music.
The Road, Always Touring shapes the artist. In 2023, she embarked on her first self-booked US tour, in partnership with Sofar Sounds, which took her across the American Southwest. That same year, she earned second place in the Ozone Songwriting Contest, winning a new guitar—a significant milestone in her career. True to herself, she kept moving forward with another tour in 2024, bolstered by her nomination as a finalist in the Red Lodge Songwriter Contest.
