Bloom by FX-Mechanics: Free Spatial Granular Doubler for Stereo and Ambisonics
Bloom by FX-Mechanics is a free spatial granular effect that approaches doubling from a three-dimensional perspective. It can create multiple virtual takes from an incoming performance, pitch-shift them independently and distribute them around the listener in stereo or Ambisonic space.
Up to 32 Virtual Takes From One Source
Bloom creates two take series, one associated with the left input and one with the right. Each series can generate up to 16 additional takes, giving a maximum cloud of 32 virtual performances. The level scaling is designed so increasing the take count changes density more than raw loudness.
That makes the plugin useful for widening voices, strings, guitars, synths and almost any source where natural-looking duplication would normally require several tracks.
Pitch and Spatial Position Work Together
Each virtual take can be detuned and placed on a sphere around the listener. Azimuth, elevation and spread controls define the shape of the cloud, while stereo mode uses a configurable virtual microphone pair to translate that scene back to a normal two-channel mix.
For immersive work, Bloom can also output first-, second- or third-order Ambisonics when the host bus provides enough channels.
Granular Mode Goes Far Beyond Doubling
Switch on Grain mode and each take can capture and loop fragments of the incoming audio. Grain timing can follow host tempo, while duration and fill controls change how much of each captured fragment is replayed. MIDI-note mode can even use held notes to determine grain periods, turning the effect into a pitch-locked oscillator-like cloud.
Free and Open Source
Bloom is free under the LGPL-3.0-or-later license. It is available for Windows, macOS and Linux in VST3 format, with Audio Unit support on macOS and a standalone build also listed by the developer.
The plugin was created by Olivier Doaré / FX-Mechanics and released in 2026.
A Rare Free Tool for Immersive Experimentation
Most free wideners stop at chorus, Haas delay or simple micro-pitching. Bloom is more ambitious: it treats the duplicated voices as actual positions in a spatial scene. Even when used only in stereo, that model can produce width and movement that feel very different from a standard doubler.

Final Thoughts
Bloom is one of the more technically unusual free effects available in 2026. It can function as a convincing wide doubler, but the granular and Ambisonic modes make it much more interesting for sound design. If ordinary micro-pitch widening feels too familiar, Bloom gives the concept a genuinely spatial rewrite.
