REBUILT FREEBIE is a free Kontakt instrument created by Inlet Audio from recordings captured during the production of REBUILT UPRIGHT. Instead of recreating a conventional acoustic piano, the library transforms those recordings into a resonant, unstable and atmospheric instrument.
Available for €0.00 from the official Inlet Audio website, the library includes one core articulation and five presets. Its shifting harmonics, long reflections and bell-like overtones make it particularly useful for cinematic music, Ambient, dark electronic production and emotional sound design.

What Is Included?
REBUILT FREEBIE is deliberately focused rather than filled with hundreds of minor variations. The download provides a single transformed piano articulation accompanied by five presets that explore different versions of its resonant character.
- One core manipulated upright piano articulation
- Five included presets
- Approximately 7 GB of sample content
- 24-bit / 48 kHz audio
- Long resonances and shifting harmonic detail
- Installation through Pulse Downloader
- Available for €0.00
The source recordings were originally captured for Inlet Audio’s commercial REBUILT UPRIGHT library. During editing, the developer discovered sustained tones and unusual resonances that deserved a separate instrument.
More Texture Than Traditional Piano
REBUILT FREEBIE sits between an upright piano, a resonant percussion instrument and an atmospheric synthesizer. The original piano remains audible underneath the processing, but its familiar tone is extended through long reflections, unstable overtones and evolving sustain.
Some notes develop bell-like or gong-like qualities as their harmonics interact. This makes the library especially effective when playing sparse chords, single notes and slower melodic phrases.
Dense piano writing may cause the resonances to overlap excessively. The instrument is generally more expressive when given enough time and space to bloom between notes.
Best Uses
Cinematic Scoring
The library can provide emotional piano layers, suspenseful textures and reflective harmonic beds for film, television, documentary and game music.
Use widely spaced notes and allow the natural reflections to develop. A restrained melody can often create more tension than a complicated passage when the instrument already contains substantial internal movement.
Ambient and Dark Ambient
Long sustain and evolving harmonics make REBUILT FREEBIE suitable for Ambient, Drone and experimental electronic music. Slow chords can function as complete atmospheric layers without requiring an additional pad.
Render longer performances to audio, then reverse or stretch them to create transitions, evolving backgrounds and custom soundscapes.
Lo-Fi and Alternative Production
The unstable character can also work in Lo-Fi, Alternative Pop, Downtempo and introspective Hip-Hop. A simple progression can add emotional depth without sounding like another perfectly polished digital piano.
Reduce low frequencies when the resonant body interferes with the kick, bass or 808. The instrument has plenty of atmosphere already, so additional reverb should be introduced carefully.
Creative Resampling
REBUILT FREEBIE is particularly effective as a source for resampling. Record individual notes at several pitches, then chop, reverse, stretch or process them through granular effects.
The long harmonic tails can become pads, impacts, tonal transitions or unusual percussive textures. One piano note can produce several completely different samples once it has been mistreated with sufficient professional enthusiasm.
How to Use It
After completing the free checkout on the official Inlet Audio page, install the library through the Pulse Downloader application.
Open the full version of Kontakt 6.8.0 or later and locate the installed instrument. REBUILT FREEBIE does not include a Kontakt Player licence, so loading it in the free Player may trigger demo-mode restrictions.
Begin with the supplied presets, then adjust the available sound controls to fit the arrangement. Because the sample content is large, using a fast SSD and sufficient memory will improve loading performance.
Production Tips
Use fewer notes: Open voicings prevent the resonant tails from becoming unnecessarily dense.
Control the sustain: Shorten releases when using the instrument in rhythmic or vocal-heavy arrangements.
Filter the low end: Remove unnecessary bass frequencies before layering the piano with a dedicated sub or bass instrument.
Resample long notes: Capture evolving tails and transform them into pads, risers and atmospheric effects.
Automate effects carefully: Small changes in delay, filtering or ambience can create significant movement because the source already evolves over time.
Compatibility
REBUILT FREEBIE requires the full version of Native Instruments Kontakt 6.8.0 or later. It is not licensed for unrestricted use in the free Kontakt Player.
The official specifications list support for macOS 10.13 or later and Windows 7, 8 or 10, with an Intel Core i5 or equivalent processor. A quad-core processor and at least 8 GB of RAM are recommended.
The library occupies approximately 7 GB and uses 24-bit / 48 kHz samples. Download and installation are handled through Pulse Downloader.

Final Verdict
REBUILT FREEBIE is a distinctive free Kontakt library for producers and composers who need atmospheric piano resonance rather than another conventional upright instrument.
Its single articulation, five presets and seven-gigabyte sample pool create a focused sound palette suited to cinematic scoring, Ambient, emotional electronic music and creative resampling.
The requirement for the full version of Kontakt limits accessibility, but existing Kontakt owners receive a substantial and genuinely characterful instrument at no cost. Five presets may sound modest, although each one takes considerably longer to decay than the average preset browser attention span.
