Based in Antwerp, Belgium, Svend48 (aka Svend Declercq) grew up immersed in jazz jams from his uncles and pop melodies from ABBA and The Beatles. Over the years, that musical stew simmered into a sonic identity blending groovy basslines, melancholic synths, and vintage flair — a style that feels both nostalgic and strikingly modern.

“Marcus” began with a simple idea: fusing a double bass with energetic synths and a raw, punchy beat. But what came out is far more than an experiment. The track unfolds like a moody night drive through neon-lit streets — intimate, soulful, and strangely cinematic.
“I wanted to blend jazz vibes with an aggressive rhythm, all built from scratch on GarageBand for iPad,” says Svend48. “No other instruments. Just inspiration and experimentation.”
The result is a track that feels live and alive — dusty drums, thick low-end, and shimmering textures that linger like cigarette smoke after a late-night jam session.
🛠️ From Bedroom Beats to a Growing Scene
Svend’s music journey began early, with his first recording experience dating back to 2001. While he has played in traditional bands, Svend48 became his solo outlet during the pandemic — a space to experiment with groove-first ideas and unconventional textures.
He’s currently working on an album titled “Études for iPad”, featuring 10 instrumental tracks recorded entirely on — you guessed it — his iPad. “Still learning how to mix synths properly,” he says, modestly. But judging by Marcus, he’s already onto something fresh.
