The title fits perfectly. “Retaliate” moves like a response, a metallic counterattack driven by controlled anger and mechanical precision.Guitarist and founding member Shaun Glass sums up the spirit of the track with brutal clarity: “Retaliate is a straight punch to the teeth. Coming out swinging. This song has that take no prisoners with intensity and hooks. So tune in and turn that sh** up!!!!”https://open.spotify.com/intl-fr/artist/3ifxZ5pNDunDPitYwmG8JM

A Single Built For Fans Of Heavy, Modern And Aggressive Metal

Musically, “Retaliate” stands firmly in the world of Modern Groove Metal and Metalcore, with a strong American metal backbone. Fans of Fear Factory, DevilDriver, Trivium, Slayer, Testament and Lamb Of God will immediately recognize the combination of compact riffs, crushing rhythmic force and aggressive hooks that give the track its instant impact.

The strength of the song lies in its balance. Repentance do not simply stack heavy riffs for the sake of volume. The band builds real movement, with sharp attacks, shifts in tension and a production that lets the violence breathe without losing clarity. The sound is massive, but every element remains precise. The drums push the track forward with constant pressure, while the guitars hit like a perfectly tuned machine.

Chicago Roots, Metal In The Blood

Founded in 2018 in Chicago, Illinois by guitarist Shaun Glass, known for his previous work with Soil and Dirge Within, Repentance quickly built a strong reputation in the Chicago and Midwest metal scenes. The band has shared stages with major names such as Trivium, DevilDriver, Jinjer, Sacred Reich and Toxic Holocaust.

That live experience can be felt throughout “Retaliate”. This is not a track designed only for the studio. It carries the energy of a pit, the kind of song that demands volume, red lights, movement and a crowd ready to take the hit. In other words, metal that does not politely knock before entering the room.

After releasing their debut album “God For A Day” in 2020, Repentance took another major step by signing worldwide with German metal label Noble Demon in 2021. Their Noble Demon debut EP, “Volume I – Reborn”, marked an important transition for the band, introducing vocalist Adam Gilley alongside a rebuilt lineup featuring Shaun Glass, Eric Burns, Eric Karol and Brandon White.

A Sharper And More Focused Evolution

The band’s sophomore album, “The Process of Human Demise”, released on September 1, 2023, pushed Repentance further into a powerful blend of groove, thrash and modern metal. Produced by Alex Lackner at Accelerated Sound and mixed and mastered by Chris Collier, the album featured guest appearances from Corey Beaulieu of Trivium and Milo Silvestro of Fear Factory.

With “Retaliate”, Repentance appear to be pushing their sound into an even more concentrated and aggressive form. The upcoming album was once again produced by Alex Lackner at Accelerated Sound, while the mix was handled by Ari Mihalopoulos at Inner Light Studio. This combination brings both continuity and a fresh sonic edge to what is presented as some of the band’s most aggressive material to date.

The title track gives the impression of a band that knows exactly where it wants to go. There is no unnecessary detour, no empty demonstration. “Retaliate” relies on impact, groove and efficiency. It hits fast, hits hard and leaves behind the rare feeling of violence that has been fully controlled.

“Retaliate” As A Statement Of Intent

By choosing “Retaliate” as both the lead single and the title of the album, Repentance make their message clear. This new chapter is built around resistance, force and raw energy. Now in their eighth year, the band enters this era with renewed intensity and a more defined sonic identity.

What makes Repentance stand out in an overcrowded modern metal landscape is their ability to remain direct without becoming predictable. The riffs are immediate, the hooks are aggressive, but the heaviness never loses its shape. This is metal made to strike, but played by musicians who understand the difference between power and noise.

With this first single, “Retaliate” positions the upcoming album as a major moment in the band’s evolution. Repentance sound focused, heavier and fully ready to deliver one of their most punishing records yet.
