OA-Phosphor-1 is a free virtual analog synthesizer from OA-Labs built around a simple but creative idea: instability should be something you can control.
At conservative settings, Phosphor-1 behaves like a clean and precise subtractive synth. Increase its AGE and instability controls and the instrument gradually develops pitch drift, filter movement, jitter, sag and unpredictable organic motion.

Two Oscillators, Sub and Flexible Analog Shaping
Phosphor-1 starts with two main oscillators and a dedicated sub oscillator.
The oscillator section supports additional interactions including cross modulation, ring modulation and hard sync, giving the synth enough flexibility to move beyond basic subtractive patches.
The sub oscillator can reinforce bass patches or provide additional harmonic weight underneath pads, leads and sequences.

The AGE Engine
The defining feature of Phosphor-1 is its AGE system.

Parameters including drift, jitter, wander and sag can introduce subtle imperfections or push a patch much further into damaged, tape-worn territory.

Lorenz Chaos Modulation
Phosphor-1 also includes a Lorenz-style chaos generator.
Unlike a conventional repeating LFO, this creates deterministic movement that continuously evolves without simply repeating the same modulation cycle.
The chaos rate and amount controls make it possible to introduce very subtle motion or create far less predictable modulation.

A Continuously Morphing Multimode Filter
The filter section can move continuously between low-pass, notch, band-pass and high-pass responses.
Instead of selecting one fixed filter type, the Morph parameter allows producers to transition between them as part of the sound.
Additional cutoff, resonance, envelope, drive, color, motion and keyboard tracking controls provide further tonal shaping.

Warp, Curve, Fold and Bias
A dedicated waveshaping section provides another stage of harmonic control before the final output.
The controls include Warp, Curve, Fold and Bias, allowing relatively simple oscillator tones to be pushed into richer and more aggressive shapes.
Up to 4x oversampling is available in this section to improve processing quality when heavier shaping is used.

A Generative Arpeggiator
Phosphor-1 includes a 16-step arpeggiator that goes beyond standard up, down and repeating note patterns.
Individual steps can be shaped using probability, octave movement, glitch and timing controls.
A Groove section adds further rhythmic variation, making it possible to generate patterns that feel less rigid than a conventional arpeggiator.
This can be particularly useful for House, Techno, Ambient, Synthwave and experimental electronic production.

Poly, Mono, Legato and Unison Modes
The synth supports polyphonic, monophonic and legato playing modes.
Unison includes spread and phase controls for creating wider leads, basses and pads, while glide provides traditional portamento movement between notes.
This makes Phosphor-1 useful for both conventional playable synth patches and more experimental sound-design applications.
Built-In Preset Browser

Important: Windows Version Is Still in Testing
At the moment, OA-Phosphor-1 can be downloaded immediately for macOS in VST3 and Audio Unit formats.
The Windows build is currently in final testing and OA-Labs provides a waitlist for producers who want to be notified when it becomes available.
AAX is not currently supported.
