Process.Audio has unveiled Protility, a free utility plugin designed to enhance mixing efficiency for audio professionals. This all-in-one tool consolidates essential mixing functions, offering precise control over various audio parameters.
Key Features:
Phase Inversion & Channel Selection: Protility enables users to invert the phase of left and right channels independently or simultaneously, facilitating effective A/B comparisons. It also allows isolation or swapping of stereo channels, providing flexibility in channel management.
Phase Control: The plugin includes a phase shifter that adjusts the phase of low frequencies using a first-order all-pass filter, allowing precise control over the cutoff frequency.
High-Pass Filtering: A built-in high-pass filter removes unwanted low frequencies. The default slope is set to 12 dB/octave but can be increased to 18 dB/octave for more aggressive filtering.
Sample Delay: Protility offers stereo sample delay, permitting delay adjustments in samples or milliseconds for each channel. This feature is useful for creating effects like the Haas effect or correcting timing discrepancies.
Stereo Width Management: Users can modify the stereo width by adjusting the side component of the signal. Settings range from 0% (mono) to 400%, enabling the creation of a broader and more immersive soundstage.
Pan Control: The plugin provides panning capabilities from full left to full right. An x2 mode allows independent adjustment of left and right channels, useful for centering elements without affecting the opposite channel.
Gain Control: Protility features a gain section with peak metrics and clipping indicators for each channel. The gain fader allows boosting up to +24 dB or reducing down to -60 dB, effectively silencing the sound if needed.
Correlation Meter: A correlation meter offers insights into the mono compatibility of the signal and potential phase issues, ensuring a balanced and phase-coherent mix.process.audio
Protility is compatible with major digital audio workstations (DAWs) and supports formats including VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX. It operates on Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11 (64-bit versions only), and macOS 10.13 or newer, including Apple Silicon (M1+) compatibility.
