Nearly 40% of New Music Released in July Used AI, SubmitHub Study Finds

A SubmitHub analysis has put a striking number on the growth of AI in new music. After scanning more than one million tracks with its SH Labs detection system, the platform says 38.5% of July 2026 releases showed some level of AI involvement.

The headline figures: 23.2% were classified as fully AI-generated, while another 15.3% were identified as containing AI-generated elements later modified or processed by humans.

More than one million new music releases analyzed

SubmitHub’s SH Labs system attempts to classify tracks according to how much artificial intelligence may have contributed to the finished recording. The July dataset covered more than one million releases, giving the industry one of its largest public snapshots of AI adoption in newly distributed music.

The combined 38.5% figure suggests that AI is no longer a fringe production technique. Whether fully generated or partially integrated into the production workflow, AI appears to be present in a substantial part of the modern release pipeline.

Why the 38.5% number needs context

AI detection is not perfect. Any automated classifier can produce false positives, especially when production techniques overlap with the sonic characteristics associated with generative models. Vocals, heavy processing, synthetic textures and unusual mastering can all complicate detection.

Reports around the study also note that some artists flagged by AI detectors deny using generative tools. That disagreement is important. The number should therefore be understood as the output of SubmitHub’s methodology, not an absolute census of every release worldwide.

Transparency may matter more than detection itself

The central issue is rapidly becoming disclosure. Curators, listeners, labels and streaming platforms increasingly want to know whether AI materially shaped a recording. That puts pressure on distributors to collect better metadata before a song ever reaches Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer or specialist stores.

The most useful future system may combine artist disclosure, distributor metadata and technical detection rather than relying on a single detector. That would reduce the risk of treating uncertain algorithmic results as unquestionable facts.

Audiartist analysis: the real story is not only that AI music is growing. It is that the industry now needs infrastructure capable of distinguishing human-made, AI-assisted and fully AI-generated releases at scale.

What this means for curators and independent artists

For curators, the increase in AI-generated submissions makes manual review harder and strengthens the case for better provenance data. For independent artists, transparent metadata could become a way to demonstrate human authorship and avoid being incorrectly grouped with mass-generated catalogue spam.

If the current trajectory continues, AI labels and disclosure requirements could become standard across distributors, streaming services and submission platforms. That would make provenance a normal part of music discovery rather than a specialist technical issue.

SEO takeaway: SubmitHub’s 38.5% AI music figure highlights how quickly generative AI is entering new music releases and why AI detection, disclosure and metadata standards are becoming central to the music industry.
